Regional integration in West Africa: Strengths, opportunities and challenges: an action plan for an enhanced role for Senegal

This study aims to identify and analyze the constraints and challenges, assets and opportunities for the development of Senegal in a regional context.

• Critical assessment of the integration process in the sub-region
• Assessment of Senegal’s position among ECOWAS institutions
• Assessment of Senegal’s experience in macroeconomic convergence and multilateral monitoring, financial integration within ECOWAS and trade promotion as well as Private sector strengthening
• Analysis of road, rail, port, river, marine, airport and energy infrastructures
• Examination of transport and trade facilitation constraints and challenges throughout ECOWAS coutry members
• Outline of basic and alternative scenarios in areas deemed likely to strengthen Senegal’s role and its positioning in the regional integration process in ECOWAS area
• Determination of capacity building enhancement needs of entities/actors contributing to Senegal’s integration within the ECOWAS region
